Hummers
Welcome and welcome from Sugar Land, Texas and Cloudcroft, New Mexico!
In Sugar Land we get a few hummers passing through in the Spring/Fall. Purportedly some people in the Houston area have hummers all year. Thus far I've had no such luck. I do have many nector plants in my garden and put up a couple feeders in the Spring/Fall.
In New Mexico I sometimes refill a quart container the same day. I also keep a few smaller feeders scattered among the trees. Purple thistle is profuse :-x; I've even seen a hummer go after the tail lights on our SUV! Because of the Black Bears, the feeders must be brought in at night.
If I don't get the feeders up early-early the little buggers are at the window "reminding" me. Two years ago I attended the NM Hummingbird Festival outside of Silver City. During the banding I was fortunate to be given a tiny bird to hold/release. Awesome experience. When the grandkids visit they love to hold the feeders to get up close and personal.
